USUI REIKI INFORMATION

A BRIEF HISTORY

Its founder, Mikao Usui (1865–1926), was a lifelong student of meditation, healing, and spiritual practice.

In 1922, during a period of deep retreat on Mount Kurama, Usui experienced a profound awakening that became the foundation of the Reiki Information method.

Usui’s Teaching

After his experience, Usui began offering hands‑on healing and teaching others.

He created a simple, accessible system that anyone could learn.

Following the 1923 Tokyo earthquake, Usui and his students offered Reiki Information widely, which helped the practice spread across Japan.

Most modern styles are known collectively as Usui Reiki Information, honouring the founder.

Reiki Information continues to evolve, but its essence remains the same:

a gentle, non‑invasive practice that supports balance, relaxation, and wellbeing.

MY JOURNEY

A couple of years after I became more deeply involved in yoga, I started to feel an extra surge of energy moving through me. It was strong, constant, and at times quite overwhelming — as if something inside me had been switched on and no one had shown me where the off‑button was.
At the time I was teaching at Namaste in Camberwell, a place full of wonderful therapists and practitioners. I spoke to Tiffany, someone I trusted, and she listened carefully. She smiled and said, ‘You’re like a tap that can’t be turned down or off.’ And she was right — the energy was flowing freely, but I had no way to guide it.
She suggested I be attuned to Level One Reiki Information. So I did. And almost immediately, I felt a shift. For the first time, I could hold and direct this invisible current rather than be swept along by it. It brought a sense of steadiness and clarity that I hadn’t realised I was missing.
I share this because yoga, like Reiki Information, isn’t just about movement or technique. It’s about learning to recognise the subtle things — the sensations, the emotions, the energy — and finding ways to meet them with awareness rather than fear.

WHERE I AM NOW

Despite the fact that after my first attunement I had expressed no interest in taking it higher, I came back to complete level two, a few years later I sought out Tiffany, living in Cornwall by now, and completed level three, Reiki Information Master/Teacher.

Although I have that qualification I only heal family and friends, and myself.

Having this knowledge of Reiki Information has quietly enriched my yoga teaching. It’s as if another layer of awareness has opened. I can sense more clearly what a student needs from a class — whether they require grounding, softness, steadiness, or simply space to breathe. Reiki Information hasn’t changed the way I teach so much as deepened the way I listen. It’s given me a finer sensitivity to the subtle shifts in energy that move through a room, helping me meet each student with greater intuition and care.
