Diwali October 2025

October has arrived! The month of Diwali. The wonderful celebration of light where we come together and in classes we practice the joy of heart opening asanas. Asanas for the Anahata chakra, the fourth primary energy center in the body, located in the chest, which governs love, compassion, and connection.

Hanuman plays a central and crucial role in the story of Diwali, which marks the return of Lord Rama and his wife Sita to their kingdom of Ayodhya.

Hanuman is portrayed as Rama's loyal and powerful devotee and general. After the demon king Ravana kidnaps Sita, Hanuman uses his immense strength and ability to fly to cross the ocean to Lanka, where he locates Sita and reassures her that Rama is coming to rescue her.

Following Sita's discovery, Hanuman proves vital in the battle against Ravana and his demon army, ultimately helping Rama secure victory. When Rama, Sita, and his brother Lakshman begin their journey back to Ayodhya, the people light rows of earthen lamps, or diyas, to guide their path home.

This festival of lights symbolises the triumph of good over evil, with Hanuman embodying unwavering devotion and strength that made this victory and joyous homecoming possible. In some regions, Hanuman is specifically worshipped during Diwali for protection and courage.

My classes will reflect Diwali in celebrating with my students. The Bothy will be lit with candles and light as it was for Hanuman. Beautiful incense will burn and decorations hung. After class we will come together to relax in good company and share food for all to enjoy.

Diwali begins on October 20th and carries on through the week. Contact me if you would like to come along and celebrate with myself and the Bothy Yogis.

Diwali classes are at 10 am on Monday 20th, Tuesday 21st and Friday 24th of October.
